The Nike Air Max Tailwind IV ‘Red Orbit’ shoes sees the recently revitalised retro model updated in a summer ready colourway. It’s simple aesthetic utilises a breathable white mesh upper with soft ghost aqua suede overlays ensuring a tonal finish to the multi-panelled design. Bright hints of colour are shown through red orbit highlights on the lacing unit and lateral sides, where the signature gradient affect has been added to the TPU accents on the side panels. Final red details include an embroidered swoosh on the toe-box and under the collar, ‘Max Air’ branding on the heel and air bubbles. The EVA midsole has been finished in white, with a ghost grey trim to harmonise the colours on the upper.
The Tailwind IV was best known for providing durable comfort, with the signature silhouette of the air bubbles ensuring even stability and cushioning with every step. The EVA foam used in the midsole further helps maintain comfort, while additional flex grooves throughout the body of the shoe allow for anatomic shaping that feels natural. Finally the carbon rubber outsole provides multidirectional traction.
The first part of the Tailwind story began in 1979, where the first ever line of Max Air technology was introduced into footwear. This iteration was debuted twenty years later, and saw exposed air-bubbles in specific places to offer greater balance during movement - which further went on to inspire iconic models such as the Air Max Plus.
